Zubeng knives?

I have been tasked with the sharpening of a Zubeng drop point hunting knife but its so beautifully polished I know touching a stone will result is a distorted finish.

I can get some pictures up later but its a full convex and polished blade which has revealed the layers and hamon.

So, how would you go about sharpening one of these blades thats only slightly dulled? Remember, this falls more into the hand polishing category than the sharpening category.

cover the blade face with blue tape and leave the cutting edge that needs to be sharpened as is

I would stick to strops myself. Those are a mighty pretty blades.

My plan was to use my natural Aoto near the edge to restore the minor dulling then use my natural finishing stone or my Nubatama Han-Han.

I have no plans to go more than 1-3 mm up the blade with any grinding, even that makes me cringe at the thought but gotta do something, its dull :)

I haven't started it yet, very intimidating.

Have a SMF and a Takeda hunting knife to warm up with first :D
