Hi Mark,

I am looking to get Shapton Glass 1k & 6k for use in my wood shop…I don’t like using my kitchen knife stones with my plane irons and chisels. Anyway, what do you recommend for flattening the Shapton’s?

Thanks,

Carter

Hi Carter,

Chisels and plane irons really benefit from dead flat stones more so than kitchen knives. I would recommend the Atoma 140 for you:

The shapton flattening plate is excellent but it's so expensive I have a hard time recommending it:

Actually that will work just fine. I use that same plate for all of my flattening jobs.
