What stones should I get for my new Doi?

Fri Jul 05, 2013 2:35 pm

Hello Mark

Thank you for the explanation on the other day, I want de Doi, but in terms of stones, what do you recommend? I was thinking of 1000 grid and 8000, what do you think? or it makes more sense 1000, 5000 and then 8000 or higher for the knife that i´m going to buy?
I´m sorry to bother you, but my knowledge is limited.

Thank you
Hope to hear from you soon

With my best regards

Ricardo

The Chosera line of stones would be a good match for your new knife. I would suggest getting a medium grit and a high grit stone for sharpening your knife. 1K and 5K are a good set with this line.

There are 2 other accessories that will help as well. A stone holder is nice to have. It's not essential since you can put the stone on a damp dish towel but I think it's worth the small cost:

Finally a good flattening plate will help you keep your stones flat. I recommend the DMT XXC. It works really will and is very flat.

This item is also not completely necessary. You can flatten your stones with 120 grit wet dry sandpaper but the plate is what I use and I like it.
