should be able to pick up my Japanese Natural Water Stones Today!
Great news for me
I cannot find information on your Websit, or on the net, as to which Diamond Plate would be the Best to flatten my 2k and 10k Japanese Waterstones?? ONE or TWO plates required for the best finish
( So as not to gouge the finer grits etc.)
Once again, a pleasure dealing with Chefknivestogo
Thanking you Kindly

I personally use the DMTXXC for all my stone flattening which stands for extra extra coarse.
I don't normally use a second plate except when I'm lapping hard natural finishing stones. I'll often use a slurry stone which is finer on these.

I combo my 140<--link
Atoma plates for lapping duties. This is not cost effective for solely lapping duties as they are some of the most expensive diamond plates on the site, but they are absolutely true & have a unique orientation to how they position their diamonds that help them cut efficiently & clog less.
Outside of the $400 Shapton<--link
or the oversized DMT<--link
they are the premium option.

I use the DMT XXC for flattening duties as well. I will, sometimes, use my finer plates on the really high grit stones.....but as often I don't.

I started with a DMTXXC but after letting my curiosity get the best of me I bought an Atoma 140. OH MY G*D! The DMT was retired to repairs only real fast! Wish I had went straight there to begin with, it's well worth the money!

I've heard that from a lot of people Jeff. Might be on the purchase list real soon.

The Atoma's seem to have so much less stiction as the stone gets near perfectly flat than the DMT or the cheapo plates. Those things just feel like they get sucked right down on the stone unless you keep it under running water the entire time. At least that's my experience.

An atoma is on my list as well. I have the dmt xxc but after hearing all the positive of the atomas I wish I had one. It's on my list as well.

Mark has the best price on Atomas than I've seen anywhere!

+1 for the atomas, I test drove a 400 and was blown away. Far better than my beloved DMT's and very fast, it had excellent feel too which was surprising for a diamond hone.
For flattening I use a DMT XXC followed by a Chosera nagura on finer stones. My DMT has become very worn from flattening and I would like to replace it with a atoma but for flattening it seems like a waste of a good stone. I will probably cave but for now I resist temptation
