Trying to get ideas of what everyone is using. Please share your progression.

If your new to this forum welcome! I don't recognize your screen name. You'll find there are a lot of cool people here. Lots of great info shared here without the ego.

I'm still working on my progression. Everyone is always searching for the elusive perfect edge. I have used shapton glass from start to finish. 1k, 4k, 8k, 16k. Followed by stropping in balsa with chromium oxide then finish on bare leather. I have used the latte 400 to set the bevel on old ones that need reconditioning. I usually start at 1k for maintenance purposes. I have tried mixing in other stones like the green brick followed by the Snow White, on to the 16k Shapton... I have just ordered a yaginoshima asagi and a Nakayama iromono. This will replace the 16k and go further on the stones, followed by strop on bare kangaroo leather. I am expecting these stones to arrive this week.

Thank you. I jumped on this forum a while back with some questions when I purchased some knives and just jumped back on recently. I'm looking into getting into straights so I'm gathering some information now.

Thank you for replying to this thread.

Bester 1200, Naniwa SS 3k, Arashiyama 6k, Imanishi 10k, Yaginoshima Asagi, and Nakayama Asagi, then to the strops. It's quite the mix and match, but I have found it a great progression. Finally consistently happy with my results, after many ups and downs.

Chosera 1k, green brick, natural aoto, then full nagura progression (botan through koma then tomonagura) on an ozuku. Since I bought the Jnat, my honing has improved a TON!!! I enjoy honing now almost as much as shaving :)
