Mel, i have found that i only like the feel of a natural finish it's what suits my whiskers and skin most. I diss all spray's & synthetic finishes. Thay just "grabing" my skin and not comfy at all. What some likes others don't. we have all diffrent skin and whiskers. With that said some like the feel of synthetic and some like natural. Since you have very sensitive skin and whiskers like barbed wire i would recommend a finish on a very hard jnat with toma nagura. But then again you don't know until you tried what suits best.

8-)

I use my Ozuku Asagi, but always finished with the .25µ diamond.

I am thinking about trying one of the new Richmond Razors
I have Shapton Pros up to 8K, and leather for stropping.
Am I going to need anything else? I know the higher grit stones are expensive, so that may defeat the whole purpose of trying an inexpensive razor.

Mr.M <> I never tried it off the Ozuku; I always stropped afterwards.

PHILLYSCO <> I'm no SR expert, but I reckon a low micron abrasive stropping would be in order, as well... the guy's will chime in. I know it seems like MR.M is suggesting against just that, but he's actually suggesting against the diamond as it is a very aggressive particle that can make the scratches a bit dicey for sensitive skin.

Furthermore, I don't think we know much about the steel nor heat treat, and therefore how refined an edge IT <--link is even capable of supporting.

8k and leather seems to be the bare minimum to be considered shave ready. It will shave. Comfortably? It would absolutely not be for my beard. For yours? It could be enough, but if you're looking to make straight shaving a habit you'll probably want more stones. Adding chromium oxide (or other compounds) before finishing on leather would probably help. And I find naturals to be the best shave, if you do end up adding to your progression.

Philly, you should get a natural stone as a finisher after the 8k. 8k is not very comfy to shave from. if you want to go cheap then get some 0.5 chromium oxide and finish on that after your 8k.

Mel, You need to test that. result should be a smoother and more forgiving edge then you get with the spray.

most vintage razors are HT around 56 to 59. custom razors are perfered around 60 to 62. higher then that and you will spend alot of time on a finishing stone, or use the diamond sprays as a finish witch is not my option.

Can you recommend what JNAT stone I should get? They seem hard to come by, CKTG is completely sold out. Maybe some recs where I can source a good JNAT stone.
I think I have some chromium oxide I will have to check the grit level. I have balsa and leather strops too.
Thanks,
