Hi. I'm interested in purchasing the Bester/Beston/Suehiro set of stones. I will be using sand paper/dry wall screen to flatten them. I'm also thinking of purchasing one of the DMT slurry plates. Which one should I get(do I really need one?) ? x-coarse, coarse, or fine?(budget is real tight). thanks!

You don't need one, especially if you are budget constrained. The stones generate a nice slurry just by working them with your knife.
