This weekend my father told me he had a bunch of deer hide tanned years ago for a purpose that never came to fruition. I asked him if I could use some of it and he said to go for it. I cut it down and stretched it into place with some glue on a foot long 1x4. Stropped up a razor and it finished beautiful, looking forward to some knives. Reminds me a lot of horse leather, though thinner.
Anybody tried venison strops? Or any other unique/interesting materials? Got some satisfaction out of putting something we had to some good use.

I've used almost any imaginable substrate I have available to me as a stropping medium.
It's fun to try!! Not had many great one's though.
