When I'm not in a hurry and want to sharpen on stones that I love the feel of, I tend to break out the King 1.2k and finish up on the Rika 5k. I know people poo poo the King as being slow, and maybe it is, but that stone has a great feel.
The Rika on the other hand is fast and feels great to boot. I thought if I could only find a mid grit stone with the great qualities of the Rika, I'd be in mid grit heaven.

So I looked around for other mid grit possibilities. I tried the King 800 and 1000. I tried the Bester 1.2k. I tried the Ume 1k, an Aoto Aono JNat, and I tried a Shapton GS 1K. I tried a Gesshin 600. They all have there pros and cons, but as soon as I laid the blade on the Ume 1.5k, I knew I'd struck pay dirt.

Its fast for its grit rating like the Ume 1k is fast for it's, but it feels very much like a mid grit version of a Rika 5K. Its just got this silky smooth feel with great drag on the blade. You just want to sit there and sharpen all day.

I've had my eye on that Ume 1500 stone for quite awhile. Glad you like it.
