I have several stones and currently top out with the 5K Chosera. I eventually want to get the 10K Chosera, but was curious if anyone had another recommendation. Especially at a lower cost than the Chosera 10K. Thanks for your thoughts.

This really depends on the user. I preferred the Naniwa 10k SuperStone over the Chocera. But, I like the chalk soft stone and others don't.

For kitchen work, I wouldn't expect any serious improvement after the Chosera 5k. Sometimes I strop afterwards with Cr2O3 - I like the acrylic paint form - but that's rather for fun. There is some effect, but's not exactly lasting.

If you dont want to break the bank and get a scary sharp mirror give the Imanishi 10k a try,I will warn you that is very soft and I highly recommend edge trailing strokes unless your experienced.Overboard for kitchen knives but a definite contender for a 10k stone for the price.

I went with the Chosera Snow White to follow the 5k. At 8k its pretty damn fine. In fact I just resharpened my Artifex, and my Toshiro DP 270mm Gyuto on these stones, only to compare them with my newly recieved Tekeda blade from hell.

All blades push cut through any paper product I have around. Full speed ahead!

Could anyone explain, as both stones are so close in grit size (around 2 micron)?

Another one to consider is the Kitayama 8000 Grit Water Stone. I have this stone and love the results. It too is on the softer side, but from what I understand, not as soft as others mentioned here. According to some, it is an 8K stone that leaves a 12K result.

I can't confirm that exactly, but I can say the finish it leaves is very nice.

Will these stones enhance kitchen performance after a Chosera 5k?
