I have a Latte 400 and I really like it. It is a very nice stone. If the Gesshin is a "better" stone I would be suprised.

Someone I trust who's in a position to know told me they are probably the same stone.

I wouldn't put much thought into this guys....this happens, has happened so much, and will continue to happen so frequently that if you're around long enough it becomes so daunting to keep up with that you learn to ignore it.

To answer the question, the likelihood that they're the same is pretty high.

The Gesshin line of stones are products that Jon Broida sells at Japanese Knife Imports, this is a line developed for him in Japan. I have heard nothing but great things about these stones and they are on my bucket list. (Jon has made some superb knife sharpening videos by the way).

This is not to say that the Latte is not the same stone, I'm just saying that at all, if it is than yes indeed it is an excellent deal/stone. It sure looks similar except for the kanji on the Gesshin series and judging by the review of both the Latte and Gesshin, they probably are.
