Take a type of wood you like, cut three pieces one that is as wide as the blade draw of the blade on it. Cut out then glue, then on the the pieces, then cut the shape of the blade and drill hol for pin, then glue the last piece sanding and shaping makes a pin

Yup, 3 layer saya. I use basswood for the middle piece (spacer) since it is very soft and won't damage the edges, then I use 2 pieces of wood on the outside, poplar for the less expensive ones and nicer woods for the higher end saya's.

I've seen leather used, I would think it would be fine as long as you use care removing and installing the saya.

There is a method to prevent this , I make a fixed blade knife sheaths
We use a welt , it's a piece that the blade runs on during insertion and removal.

I could run a tutorial if anyone is interested?
