Please explain the difference between M300 and HRC-61 material

also what is AEBL

I intersted in purchasing Richman Artifex

Chuck,

HRC 61 refers to the Rockwell hardness rating of the steel, measured using the Rockwell "C" scale testing method.

AEB-L is an alternate name for 13C26 stainless steel.

M390 (I think that's what you meant) is a PM or Powdered Metallurgical stainless steel.

I hope the contents of the email had more in it than this. You definitely need to get a steel FAQ up and reply with the link to it. I understand as the proprietor you cannot reply snarkily, but my response to a thread like this would be "Try using the search button" or www.google.com. Whatever happened to doing a little bit of your own research? Don't even get me started on spellcheck.

Yes AEB-L is a type of stainless steel. It's excellent for kitchen knives which is why I chose it for my Richmond Artifex line of knives. HRC refers to Rockwell hardness and most knives fall in between 55-65 HRC. Lower Rockwell hardness makes steel more tough and higher makes it harder and less tough. Both qualities are useful in kitchen knives.
