I was looking at a few of your knives and i was wondering what the difference is between Richmond Damascus 240mm Gyuto, and the Richmond Laser 240mm Gyuto. I need a new knife all of mine were stolen when my car got stolen a little wile ago, and i have just been using Tojiro Shirogami Santoku 165mm its not a bad knife just a little small. I used my friends Gyuto and like it a lot! and he was telling me about your knives and how great they are. I was just wondering the difference between them and what is better??

Let me know

Scott

Hi Scott,

The big difference is the damascus is more of a workhorse type gyuto and the laser is thinner and lighter. Some people like one over the other. Both are excellent knives. The damascus one looks great. One of the nicer damascus blades in our shop. I don't think you would go wrong with either one.

Other than the obvious differences in appearance and steel used, practically:

The Laser, I love the practical use of the that name, is just that....it's meant to be ultra thin for those that really like an overall thin knife from spine to edge. It's ala that Tadatsuna, Suisin Inox Honyaki genre. Make it as thin as practical.

The Damascus is a thicker knife. Not German thick, but not laser thin. It's still got a decent grind, but it's definitely more robust than the Laser.

Steel wise, the Laser has, in my opinion, a better steel than the Damascus.
