Hello,

We are looking at getting a Sashimi knife for a christmas present. The knife would be used exclusively for cutting whole pieces of Sashimi, and we're wondering what you can recommend from the ones you have on your website?

I've done a brief browse (there are so many!) :) - and I've been looking at the Global knives, however there are a lot of brands I am not familiar with and would like to know if you guys can point me out any others that would fit the bill?

Thanks very much,
- Jeff

Hi Jeff,

Are you right handed? Yes
Do you know how to sharpen? No, but my father does and could show me
Do you want a stainless knife or are you open to carbon knives? No preference, whichever would be better down the road
I'm assuming you would prefer a Japanese handled knife? As well does not matter, blade quality is what I am after
How much did you want to spend? Preferably around $100-$150, however I would like to know a 2-3 choices with the best having cost as no object

Do you mind if I post your question on our forum? Please go ahead and post it on the forum, I wasn't aware you had one and would definitely like it if you did that.

Kind Regards,
Mark Richmond

Here are a few I would recommend. This one is made of blue steel (carbon). It's an excellent yanagi for the money. Yanagis are a little tricky to sharpen since they're one sided blades.

This Moritaka is a two sided blade and I think it would be easier for you to sharpen if you're just learning. It uses high quality aogami super steel (carbon) and it's my top suggestions for you:
