A new stone! I have two of these at the moment with more on the way, one for me and one sold. Here I'm using it in the initial progression removing a small chip on the edge of a Hart Steel razor. This stone seems to work well on knives and razors as a bevel setter. Slow wearing and an aggressive stone. I would consider this finer than an Amakusa and a bit coarser than a Binsui but a bit faster. I'm really enjoying this stone. And did I mention that it is HUGH.

Wow. How many years of daily use do you think one could get out of that! Why so large? Wouldn't it make more sense economically to cut it in half, level one surface, and create two stones?

Good Question! I agree, this is going to last someone a very long time, especially so because it is slow wearing for it's grit level.

The shape is how it comes from the mine. Individual mines have their own sizes.

So I agree with you and when I get the next one in I am going to cut it for a smaller thickness and cut some for the EP as well.

I wanted to check this stone out before ordering more - it's a winner so I ordered more (while I can get them).

Those natural stones are really calling to me lately -- which means I'll be calling you, I guess. ;)

Ken,

If you were comparing this with the Nubatama, Ume or Chocera lines, close to what grit range would you categorize it?

Thank you!

I would say it spans the range of 800 to 2k so It can be used for going from an initial edge to an excellent working edge in one stone.
