hi mark,

I was searching for info on the best way to clean a knife bag thats basically taken on the worst smells of the restaurant, and i couldnt find any. i know that this is probably not a question that people ask you about often, but from my past experiences emailing you, you always seem willing to help if youve got info. any links or suggestions on how to rid the bag of stench without destroying the zippers and pockets? thanks if you do!

bret

These get so incredible funky over time.

My first suggestion would be to take a little detergent meant for the washing machine, cut it with some water and take a bristle brush and scrub it. Then garden hose and pressure rinse it. Then hang it to dry for a day or two. I don't think I would trust a washing machine or dryer. If it falls apart don't blame me!

After the scrubbing and rinse, hang it outside in the sun and breeze for a couple of days.

Baking soda, or washing soda...the old fashioned laundry detergent before brand name toxic stews were brewed. Throw powder everywhere and scrub, with a nylon bristle cleaning brush, let air dry, problem solved. No need to stink it up even more with synthetic fragrances.

Not quite Nmiller...Here is a good article explaining the difference...Basically a big generic bag of baking soda is best to use. Since it will be a washing medium I wouldn't be too concerned about impurities such as aluminum which is commonly found in many baking soda products.

A fun fact. Ancient Rome had not discovered soap so they used urine as a cleaning agent. All natural cleaning! :)

I don't recommend this on your bag....

I reserve my urine for patinas.

(Auto correct tried to insert 'Latinas'. That might have earned me a ban.)
