I have a number of japanese knives, and some have the engravings (kanji, right?) on the right side of blade, others on left.

I have been curious. Is this just random or is there a reason for left or right?

No real reason that I know of, I even have knives engraved on BOTH sides.

Maybe someone else can say if there is something special about it.
