Question #4. What inspired you to start CKTG?
I guess I have to handle this one myself unless Sue wants to join in.
We ran a retail futon store from 1991-2000 and we sold the business and "retired" for about a year. We traveled and hung out and got incredibly bored so we started talking about doing another business or trying a new career. Sue got very into cooking and decided to go to culinary school here in Madison to the detriment of my waistline. We took a trip out to Boston and were walking around Chinatown and stumbled into a restaurant supply store. I noticed a bunch of kitchen knives and cleavers and the idea struck me that knives would be a great retail store to do on the internet since we could run it from home. Normally Sue says no to my crazy ideas but this one she liked so we decided to give it a shot. Since we knew the basics of retail it was a little easier to jump in and try it.
Our first order was Tue Aug 27 23:55:40 CST 2002 and it was a Global G-2 Chef knife sold to a guy named Tom from OR. We we're very excited when we got it.
