I'm going to be working on some very short (1-4 minute) videos on various knife topics. How about we come up with a list of topics and I'll refer to the list to make them? These are for my many customers that don't know much about knives and terms that we use daily around here so it's kind of a beginner's guide to becoming a knife addict.

Here are a couple I want to do.

What is clad/san mai?
What is Kurouchi?
Hardness and HRC?
Toughness and how it relates to hardness?
Mirror vs Kasumi (satin) finish?
Convex grinds.
Handle types.
What the F. is a ferrule?
All about spines.
What's a choil?
Discuss various knife protectors.

I'm also going to attempt to do some more sharpening videos that focus on single sided knives and how to sharpen them.

I have more but you guys can chime in and add some if you llke.

Video: How to keep a sharp point/tip on a knife when sharpening.

I have trouble with my points rounding slightly when I sharpen.

What's a Machi?

MARK <> To further your ideas, "WTF is a ferrule?" & "What's a choil?", and to expound upon Jeff's addition, "What's a Machi?"

Why not just do an anatomy video?

    - Choil
    - Machi
    - Emoto
    - Hawatari
    - Shinogi
    - Handle
    - Kakumaki
    - Mine
    - Kissaki
    - Kiriba
    - Sori
    - Hamato
    - Ago
    - Edge Bevel/Micro

Sounds like a great place to start.

This is just a "shot in the dark" idea. I realize you have a business and a sense of professionalism to adhere to. But, what about something fun/funny? Have you seen the chick named Hannah Hart and her youtube series "My Drunk Kitchen?" There's also " Drunk History." What about something that was light-heart and fun, with a sense of hilarity while still getting the info totally correct. Get some of the really knowledgeable dude on here wine-drunk and let them ramble about the topic.

Just an idea...I have lots of them. Most aren't good.

CLAYTON <> I am a comedy freak. I haven't owned a TV in over 20 years because my entertainment is either music or recorded stand-up comedy... Hedberg or Stanhope tracks with a bass in the back is always an added bonus. ;) I more than anyone would love to see something funny, but... I can't imagine a couple guys - let's say Rich & Adam - with a couple bottles of vino & knife topic on video would be particularly "funny".

Who knows until you try, right.?! ;)

I think it might be time to track down Salty for something like that! Maybe a drunken nude one handed ticket splitting cigarette smokin strop testing...

Well, obviously, you have to pick the right people. You gotta get the people who have an affinity for perfect delivery, like Hedberg; they gotta be able to do it inebriated, too.

That's the thing. You have to get the guy who is intensely knowledgeable, drunk, and still brilliant.

Long-shot, man. It would be worth it, though. I don't know the folks' personalities on here well enough to suggest, but I gather Salty likes rum, so.........

I'm not shooting down your idea, brother. Like I said - I'd love it more than anyone, but obviously, you gotta have a brilliant cast. I would LOVE to see all that tape generated while casting! I said BDL & Adam entirely arbitrarily... I don't know that we have any comedians. Salty qualifies, but he's been MIA from here a long while.

Rook is actually the Rum guy, but aren't we all when its good.?! ;) I have never, will never, and would never deny myself the gastronomic pleasure of a 23 Year old Ron Zacapa Centenario. :P

Oh I got that rum affinity wrong. You're right.

For what it's worth, I'm in. People laugh at me all the time when I've been drinking. I can only assume it's because I'm naturally hilarious. That's what I tell myself, anyway.
