I'm looking to buy a set of stones for an Edge Pro Apex Knife Sharpener.

I noticed that you have various stones available that fit the sharpener.

I was originally planning on just getting the 220, 400, 600, and a 1000.

The edges I'd like to sharpen are kitchen knifes, some pocket knifes, a buck hoodlum, a hatchet, and a splitting maul.

It seems really inexpensive to get the EPA stones instead of Chosera etc.

Any feedback on this?

Also, I live in the fitchburg area. Instead of shipping, would I be able to just drop by?

David

The edge pro stones work fine on the machine. Try them. The other stones like the shaptons are high quality Japanese water stones but you can do well with the stock stuff.

Picking up is ok but you need to give us a specific idea when you want to come. Just make sure you write us a note in the comments box when you check out followed by another email to arrange a time. We're in a small office so there is not a retail bricks and mortar store to browse around in.

The stock EP stones are indeed serviceable and I still use mine. The only complaint is that I hate the feel of the 400, far preferring the (discontinued?) 320.

David - for sharpening the hatchet and splitting maul, get a 10 or 12" bastard (mill) file and a 2-sided sharpening puck from Lansky. This is a great video from Wranglerstar on sharpening an axe using these tools: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIZBwT-VDBY
