I had a guy send me a Yoshihiro Honyaki Kiritsuke (270mm) to change out the handle. The original handle was long and heavy and a touch fat for his hands. He wanted to make it look like a Western style handle, kinda like the Nenox jigged bone series. We went with stainless steel bolster/endcap, and stabilized and dyed Black Redwood burl. It was challenge working with the stainless, but it was a fun project!
The stainless is pretty heavy, so I was able to reduce the length and girth of the handle a bit and it balances around 1/4-1/2" in front of the heel of the knife. I still have to polish the handle up a bit more and install it on the knife.
