Tojiro vs Shun?

Fri Nov 02, 2012 8:10 am

I was wondering about the tojiro knife the dp model versus the Damascus model.... I wanted to know to know how it stands up against shun and maco? I can't find a dealer here and wanted to know about the weight.... I like the heavier weighted knives. Maco's weight is nice... I am interested in the chef knife and was wondering if it comes in a nine inch.... I just would like to get some opinion and advice ... I would like an all around good knife that holds a sharp edge... I was thinking about the shun onion but was told about the tojiro brand and from what I read people seem happy.... Just wondering if you had any thoughts..... Oh and is it actually made in Japan .

The Tojiros and Shuns are comperable knives. Let me give you a few comparison points:

Tojiros and Shun use the same steel.
Shuns are better looking.
Shuns have better handles.
Tojiros are less money.
Both are pretty heavy.
Shun chef knives have lots of belly (curve) at the front of the knife. Some people like this, others do not.

Because of price the Tojiros are more popular with my customers. I would not choose the damascus and get the regular stainless if you chose the Tojiro. If you want good looks get the Shun.
