I've also got one of these knives and, man, do I love it! It's my first knife in white steel and it takes the sharpest edge I have ever been able to get on a knife. In fact, it now shaves more comfortable than my best straight razor. And for the money it is a true bargain.
It is very reactive at first. But after polishing it (with sandpaper up to P2500) and letting a patina develop, it's much less reactive. I let the kuro-uchi on. I like the looks and it doesn't hinder when using the knife.
Incidentally, the knife is hard. I managed to break the tip off. But I must admit that what I did doesn't qualify as "normal use". If you're curious, here is how I managed to: http://moleculepolishing.wordpress.com/2012/08/12/554/
