TKC Conversion

Mon Jul 08, 2013 12:23 am

Well, I did another Yo to Wa conversion this weekend, this time on a 240mm TKC! For some reason, Kikuichi leaves a groove in the blade just in front of the bolster and grinding it out will make the neck a bit thin, so we left it. Black Maple Burl ferrule, Amboyna Burl handle, based off of a Kono handle length/thickness/height.

Handle before the install. Bolster was peened, so I used the 2 holes to line up the machi. Cleaned it up a little more before the final fitting.

Weight is 177 grams, orig weight was around 204 grams.

I am really prefering Wa handles currently :) Lighter weight and they can still be made as a Western shape, too. I even converted a Nenox with Corian handles and double bolsters to a Wa handle, removed a TON of weight!!! LOL.

That's about my only complaint with CKTG is that almost all of the best "budget" knives are yo handled.

Knife just arrived Tim. What can I say, I am blown away. Love the way the woods turned out, handle meets perfectly and feels awesome in the hand, nice and grippy, spine and choil work is fantastic, and it is beautifully sharp. Love how the colors turned out. Best of all, the weight difference jumped out immediately when I picked it up. You did a fantastic job, and I couldn't be happier with it. Thank you.

Glad it got there quickly for ya!! Yeah, I think it came out pretty sweet! Much lighter weight wise, but still has a good weight/balance to it. I like the Amboyna and how it's somewhat fiery looking!
