Anyone have any ideas on how to make a temporary saya?
I need a saya for my CCK 1303, but they are out of stock on CKTG so I need something in the interim. I was thinking of just making something quick out of cardboard and duct tape.

Oh and i forgot to mention that I also need a saya (temporary or permanent) for my 165mm Yamashin funayuki.
Anyone know where to get one or how to go about making one?

I've used cardboard and packing tape and poster-board and scotch tape.

DUSSEAU <> They're ridiculously overpriced, but EpicureanEdge gives interior dimensions on their jyo-sayas that you can then match to your Yamashin.

Cardboard/Duct tape is the most common type of temp saya out there. The wood ones aren't too bad to make with limited tools. A Jig Saw and clamps and files/sandpaper are really all that's needed. The problem is the cleaver; it may be hard to find wood wide enough, but I think I have some Maple that I got from WoodCraft or Rockler that is 5" wide. Check Woodcraft or Rockler to see if they have some thin wood that is wide enough. I usually get 1/8" thick pieces of wood for the outer panels and then get Basswood for a spacer in the middle that is the thickness of the spine at the handle. I trace the blade out on the Basswood spacer, and cut out the blade shape so the blade will fit in. Then it's basically gluing the outer panels on and shaping it out.

Thanks for all the input guys!
I ended up just making some cardboard and duct tape sayas... worked out pretty well and should do the trick for the time being until I get something more permanent (and hopefully more attractive)

Cut out 2 pieces or cardboard slightly larger than the blade of the knife and duct tape them together is what I did. Or you can staple them together.
