A customer asks:

Quick question: How do you get the plastic sticker off the Naniwa 10K Super
Stone? It doesn't want to peel off and I don't want to risk damaging the
stone. Am I supposed to flip the stone over? It seems like the stone is
glued to the base.

Well...you can always sharpen it off the stone :) Eventually the stuff will abrade a way. I would use hot tap water in contact with just the sticker to melt the glue a bit. Don't worry too much about the stone, a little hot water won't melt the resin...Just be careful.

You can also just use a razor blade, don't worry about a few slight gouges to the stone, they'll just sharpen out anyway. Show us the 10k finish when your done.

soak and peel it off. If there is still some residue left or part of the sticker on there after that, just lap it off. If you don't have a diamond plate you can use coarse sandpaper. You could do what Umberto suggested too but it would be the glue will get on the knife and then you'll have a second mess.

Don't try and remove the stone from the base.

If you do need to get sticker adhesive off of metal (the knife) Acetone works great. I keep a huge vat of it hidden in the closet and top off my wife's nail polish remover bottles when she's not looking :)

That stuff works great to get the thin coating on many carbon steel knives too. We keep some at the office.
