Well, f***. I really need to stop talking about these knives for a good while. Every time I try to compare/contrast them, my feelings about them change the next time I pick them up together. One day I like the Kato and try to discern why, the next day it's the Shig I favor, etc. Given the length differential makes it almost mute, but still... I almost always want to revise everything I've written on any particular day. Bottom line, apologize for manic rants about either knife. Nothing wrong per-se in the commentary, but not right or complete either.

It's okay. As your knife skills and sharpening ability continue to improve your opinion is going to change pretty much continually.

When emotion leaves you, and silence becomes you... then you'll start to learn your knives.

Glad to be leaving it in your hands for that then!

No subjective or performance talk, but wanted to correct something I said erroneously earlier. After getting the 240 Kato, I compared edge profiles and the Shig actually has a longer flat than the Kato.
Lucky for the forum, you guys will be spared from listening to my fledgling thoughts on the two for a while as they are now in the capable hands of Mr. Johnson for new handles and, in the case of the Shig, some corrective work on the edge and tip.
