Tom Blodgett of Jende Industries, LLC shaves with a Kyocera Ceramic Utility Knife. Sharpened freehand using diamond films from Ken Schwartz - progression included 75, 45, 30, 20, 15, 9, 6, 3, 1, 0.5 micron diamond films and 0.025 micron poly diamond on nanocloth. This edge is WAY sharper than the standard factory edge which is already pretty sharp.

I have an Atoma that I use as a flattening "stone," and I never even thought to use diamonds on my ceramics... stupid me. I always just wrote my ceramics off as "unsharpenable" by me & sent them off to the factory as I knew my stones were useless, but I never stopped to think that obviously a diamond is harder than ceramic. Atomas only up to 1200 never triggered a thought, but this is a whole new ball game.
So if I am reading correctly, the diamond sheets are wrapped on a glass plate & I can secure that in my stone holder just like my Atoma.?!
Do you have a conversion table for the series (e.g., 150 micron/100 grit, .1micron/160,000 grit, etc.)?

And yes in the 3x8" size they will fit in a standard stone holder. Also available for the EP and WE too! Beyond tenth micron, you need to switch to poly diamond. And use nanocloth with those compounds for best results.
Well I'm not shaving my head, so perhaps so Anything else I can think of is X rated.
I've used diamond pastes in the past on ceramics with good results, but using the diamond films on ceramics - Good move, Tom!
I do have youtube videos of the diamond films on abrasion resistant steels - CPM-M4 for instance. They really go through the steel pretty effortlessly. And going past the films to 0.025 poly - I can't wait to see the microscope pics!
In the past I've sharpened and repaired ceramic knives, starting with diamond plates. In particular for more drastic repairs using coarse diamonds, you do run the risk of chipping out an edge, so be careful with XXC plates or 125 micron and 165 micron films. It may be necessary as, even with diamonds, it can be a bit of a slog. I did a repair where someone had tried sharpening the knife and he did succeed in giving me an extremely dull and chipped ceramic blade with a broken tip.
Now, when I really need to do some serious repairs, then I go to using my diamond BELTS! A 2x72" 125 micron belt on a variable speed grinder is a real weapon for ceramics and abrasion resistant steels
Tom's choice of starting with a 75 micron film is ... a PERFECT choice!
