OK, thanks for the help, I'll give it a shot.

This is why I actually bought the knife, so I could learn with it and not be afraid of messing up an expensive one, so this should be a fun learning experience :)

Well I managed to thin it out somewhat on both sides (more on the left though), and sharpened it down to about 10 degrees, wow, what a difference! It cuts just about as good as my Takamura Migaki Petty, so I'm really pleased with that.

I'll keep an eye on the edge for failure/microchips and if I find any I'll go back closer to a 15 degree angle.
