+1 on the green brick. If you want a single, do it all stone that will work. It's not ideal since it won't cut as quickly but you can certainly use it by itself. If you want to go cheap some sand paper can work to flatten. Drywall screen I've heard works too but I've never tried it.

anybody know what the angle of the edge is on the goko? i can't seem to find that information anywhere.

Nope, and I wouldn't rely on this being accurate knife to knife no how on a knife like this.

Use a black Sharpie to determine the angle.

on a side note would you guys recommend the course or extra course dmt plate for flattening the shaptons?

If it's just for flattening stones get the cheap 140grit flattening plate. If it will be used to thin and repair knives too get the DMT XXC or the Atoma 140.

+1 on Jeff's suggestion . . .

On the black sharpie trick you use a sharpie to cover the edge with ink. That way when you make a pass on the stone you will see where you are hitting the edge. Basically, put the ink on and grind it off . . . one stroke and then check your angle.

If the ink is removed on the edge then your angle is too high, it you remove from the top of the bevel and not on the edge then your angle is too low.
