The Pros are definitely my favorite stones that I have used to date, and there have been many.

I just received the Shapton Pro 220 in the mail. First initial impression is it's gold, gritty and seems much lighter than either the pro 1k or 5k. I'm gonna sharpen an old dexter white handle 10" chefs from work. The knife is so dull I decided to not waste my 1k stone trying to sharpen it. More to come.

Just to add another take on them, have a set of 1k and 5k shapton pros and couldnt be happier. Love the splash and go and the stones just cut super quickly! Really awesome stones

that was the set I started with and it offered instant gratification

well the 220 produces much more "mud" than either the 1k or 5k. starts out feeling a bit gritty compared to my other 2 pros but you settle in after a bit. it cutsquick. no issues lapping with the cheap diamond plate. still waiting to try it on some decent steel. my test was on some cheap pakistani folder. ill try to update again with more experience

I make a good chunk of my living with the glass stones. I have no doubt that the pro's are just as great.

What exactly is the difference in medium between the glass stones and the pros?
I've read that the glass stones are softer and wear more quickly than the pros. Truth?
I've got the 120, 320, 2k, and 12k in pros. 1k, 5k, and 8k en route.
Certainly noticed some differences in how they wear stone to stone.
120 I hate, dishes super fast (compared to the others). Works pretty well on carbon steels, not great with high end stainless (elmax, m4, zdp189). Still have to try it on my d2.
320 is great; cuts fast, feels really smooth for the grit size, no discernible dishing yet, favorite so far.
2k is hard and cuts fast. I reset the primary on m4 pocket knife with this in 3 hours.
12k is hard, and cuts pretty well. Doesn't do well with softer steels though, it will clog. Good with razors.

would love to hear your comparison of the 1k and 2k when your shipment arrives

It's vice versa. The Glass stones are extremely hard and dish super slowly, hence their thickness. Some users dislike the feedback that extreme hardness gives. I'm convinced they were made by a great cosmic influence for the Edge Pro.
