How thick is the new Shapton Glass 500 Extra Thick?

After reading the description, and seeing that it is $25 more, I would say the abrasive is exactly the same. The 500 tends to be the most popular low grit Glass Stone used by people (although I'd argue it SHOULD be the 320 ;) ), but it will get used up as fast as it covers a lot of range for function. You can repair knives and reset bevels with it, although I'd say it's rather slow at repairing chips and such. I like the idea of the thicker stone at low grit like that. http://www.chefknivestogo.com/shglst500grx.html

Now, if we can only get them to do that with the 320.....

I tend to agree with you about the 320. The 500 extra think is tempting me for the price. The stone @ 12.5mm thick w/o the glass is double the old stone isn't it?

Yes it is. If this stones sells well they may do the 320.

No word yet on the 320. I just added the Pro 120 to the selection.
