Had a little setback while final buffing - blade caught & struck the wall - tip gone!!
Luckily I have 3 blades - busy with heat treat of a new blade.
Here is a pick of the handle in its raw and modular state just to check the fit.
The handle edges still needs to be camfered and finally shaped to taper.
I have incorporated a carbon fiber rod along each side of the tang which strengthens the ferrule/spacers/wood assembly of the handle.
The knife should be finished by next Wednesday.

Good think you don't have to be salvaged. I have had that happen to me before and after I see if I pissed myself I go an pick up the knife to see hake bad the damage is, imagine that knife coming off the grinder at full speed and hitting u in the gut. I have nightmares about that. Glad ur ok screw the knife you have another and I bet it won't catch this time! Peace jmbullman

Ok, let me just correct this - it was the knife maker making my units who had the mishap, not me personally.

Well, glad everyone is OK, but the knife is still on the injured/disabled list..................

Just a tip repair? How much did he take off? That's usually an easy fix.
I too have nightmares about that 8" buffing wheel, but buffing on cars for almost 10 years taught me a lot. Yes, I had a knife get ripped out of my hands, but it went in the direction it was supposed to, away from me. Always buff off of the sharp edges... when you get close the the tip, start angling the tip down so that you don't catch the spine too hard near the tip where the height of the blade is narrow. If you must flip the knife edge-leading in order to better get the top of the blade, near the spine, stay away from the tip area all-together, unless the blade is butter-knife dull, and only buff the very top of the blade, don't even think of going near that cutting edge. So I like to buff the bottom 3/4 of a blade edge-trailing, then flip the knife edge-leading and do the top 1/4, so I don't catch the spine.

Hellooo, I am not interested in TIP repairs - I want a new blade, period - to my specifications - that is what I am paying for - thank you for the buffing lecture, I will pass it on to the knife maker.......
I have seriously put in too much time in finance, measurements, testing & projected autocad templates & profile design to skimp on this project.....it needs to be perfect out of the starting blocks!!!

Well you can cut the entire blade down in every dimension...so it will be the same knife, just scaled down. Whadda' say Rooky!?
Stuff happens.... and occasionally really bad stuff in life, that can never be reversed. Broken blade, schmoken blade, so what? Go buy another one. You should go and buy a bottle of something tonight that you've never tried before. Sail the uncharted waters.
