Can anyone tell me which model this is. Which kind of metal. I acquired this from a friend of mine and I was wondering about the quality. Thanks.

This looks like the damascus series, if that is the case I think it should be AEB-L. Takayuki seems to like this steel. Then again I am no expert.

G5 <> Just the same, I'm no Takayuki expert, but from the poor picture it looks much more like a carbon blade that has definite oxidation. The "pattern" that I think is being identified as "Damascus" looks more to me like a well developed patina. Again, the picture is quite poor, but I know Takayuki had put out blades in white steel...

Good luck. Maybe PM Mckemaus (sp?). He's really good at ID.

It is kinda hard to ID from the picture, but I think Melampus is right that it looks like a kasumi or honkasumi knife with patina.

Base on the style the handle and the style of of carved kanji, my bet it is Usuba of their Kasumi Suigyu line. (Assuming that ferrule is made out of horn)

That would make the core white steel.
