Richmond Laser versus Konosuke HH gyuoto

Fri Feb 22, 2013 1:15 pm

Can anyone tell me what the differences are between the Richmond Laser and the Konosuke HH 240 mm gyuto (wa)?

I understand the Richmond Laser is made of AEB-L and that the steel of the Konosuke is "secret". However, I have a Konosuke HH petty and I wouldn't be surprised if it were AEB-L, too. (If it looks like a duck, quaks like a duck, ... )

Are there any other differences between the knives? I understand they are exactly as thick/thin at the spine above the heel (2.3 mm). Which one is thinner just behind the edge? Any other differences regarding geometry or profile? And differences regarding fit-and-finish?

Thanks,
Mark.

Besides the handle they're very similar. The factory that makes them is kept secret from me so I'm not sure if the same factory makes both knives. Konosuke is not who I get these from.
