How do these two knives compare to each other?

Richmond AEB-L laser is a good laser; and as the only good laser anywhere near its price must be considered as an excellent bargain. The Konosuke HD2 is in the class of "best knife in the world at any price."
Whether the Kono or any other high-zoot laser is worth its price relative to the Richmond Laser depends how much refinement you want. They all cut onions about the same.

Really quite similar knives.
I find AEB-L a bit easier to sharpen and it won't stain as easily.
Perhaps, if you have the skill, the AEB-L will also get sharper....perhaps.
Kono is finished better.
All of the above are tiny, tiny points. Both are good knives and as BDL states, how much refinement do you want?

I too, think this is a very "hair-splitting" type argument here. Both knives are so close in performance and profile, it would be hard to tell much of a difference if you've never used a Laser type knife before. I think steel and price are your biggest determining factors here.

Sounds like there is not much in it and I'm a perpetual tinkerer. I tend to make new handles, re profile, regrind the knives I have regularly.
Am thinking because of this, any "Fit and Finish" benefit of the Kono would less valuable as a purchasing influence, plus, CKTG, its forum, knives, and service has added a nice dimension to my life and that is valuable as a purchasing influence.
Am thinking I'll get the R Laser, put my scratches on it and have some fun

There might not be much difference performance wise between the Richmond AEB-L Laser and the Konosuke HD2 but for me there is something magical about owning a Konosuke, I must posses one. It will be my next purchase. If Konosuke didn't exist I would get the Richmond Laser. And still might, just after the Kono!
Someday will come when it will be time for a Takeda too.
