Relaunch

Fri Jan 10, 2014 1:12 am

Okay, relaunch for a few reasons.

1) forgot username/password and tried to reset with now avail. Relaunch!
2) computers screw up all the time. Easy fix is a relaunch.
3) computers, right, wtf is a guy with a love for all things sharp gonna do when he leaves the kitchen, a good one too, and pursues a career at a desk. Relaunch???

The new job is a good thing for many reasons, but I have the blues, and miss my kitchen so much. It's soon f-ing SLOW at the office. It is making me mental, and for the first time I feel like I might really use my knives as weapons and not tools of the trade.

I still have my collection of knives and stones, and still have my small biz sharpening and woodworking gig to help me with my sanity, but feel like don't know what to do about the emptiness in my life without my restaurant family.

Anybody with similar experiences? This forum is the next closest community with a passion and I hope I can make the transition from lurker to participator. Relaunch!!! I love this place and read it all the time.

Welcome Cody, I think you'll make the transition from lurker just fine. Good luck with your "desk job".

All lurkers are welcome!

as for restaurant family... I'm not really sure how you can get that feeling back, the type A personality and general homosexual nature of a professional kitchen is not easily replicated outside of the industry.

However I've always enjoyed cooking for other people, you don't have to host, just get some buddies together and offer to cook. Drink some beers, chill out and have a good time. this shouldn't be a problem since you work at the office, I bet you get weekends off heh heh :P

Weekend off are amazing. Well for me, not so much my family who are the recipients of my work starved energy. The house is getting really clean these days :)

It is still in the transition phase so I gotta trust thinks will work out fine. Maybe a small cutting board and a petty at the desk will help. But next you know it the French press, a mini reach in, an induction cooker and I'll shift all my productivity to what amazing feats of cooking I can accomplish in a lunch break.

I'm already plugging folks about sharpening their knives and using my best mentally stable I am not killer just a dude who loves knives voice so I don't scare em too bad. A couple a guys are cool and seem like they are on board.

Thanks cktgf,
Cody

You'd be surprised how much you can do with a pressure cooker and 20 minutes, might not be so good for the subtle noise of telephones ringing and pens clicking in the office.
