For the chestnut handle on the Goko W#1, do you think it is possible to sand the "D" shape into an octagon without messing it up too bad? I like the look of sanded chestnut with that little bit of smooth peeking through the burnt. I have been procrastinating the handle job on this knife forever, haha.

Hmmm. D shape into an Octagon will be tricky. The handle is big, so if you replace the ferrule, it may be possible. Are you going to hand sand or use a disc or belt sander? You may want to flatten the D down so it matches the other side as an oval before cutting the bevels?

Hand sand it. I may just bring the "D" shape down to match the ferrule. I'm not sure, I want to get a new handle for it eventually, because I don't like ferrule, so if I mess it up I'm not all that upset.
