Thank you! Since I see you have an interest in natural stones, let me expand on the comment, " Natural stone mirrors tend to have a haze like an antique mirror."

The term for this finish is a kurobikari finish. The kuro part refers to the subtle black haze in the finish, just like the kurouichi finish on a knife that is the black firescale from the forging process. The softer cladding (jigane) takes on a different scratch pattern than the core steel (hagane) because of the way the natural stone interacts with the two steels to produce an entirely different scratch pattern, yielding a kasumi finish. You see this to some extent with SOME synthetic stones, like the 2k Bamboo Nubatama stones, allowing these stones to work well with naturals - even on the EP! as well as full sized stones. It is this marriage of the natural stone with the metallurgy created by the process of making a sword or knife that the polisher tries to optimize to bring out the underlying beauty of the swordmaker's art.
