I am looking for a true workhorse. None of this 60 plus HRC. No acute angles. A monster that I can cut weeds the size of drink straws and chop down tiny trees. Think of Indiana Jones in the jungle blazing a path.

I bought this crappy thing.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004BS ... UTF8&psc=1

I destroyed the edge within 5 minutes while cutting weeds around a tree. I did not even hit a rock. The price should have been a clue.

Anyone have any ideas on a cutlass?

thanks in advance

El

Its been some time since I look for something like a cutlass per say. Probably not what your really looking for anyway. Take a look at the items from Condor and Ontario.

Yeah, the newer Gerber stuff really seems to under perform. I have their woodsman style blade that I occasionally use for trimming limbs, but the blade that get the bulk of the yard work is my Cold Steel Kukri.

If the Kukri is not your thing, Cold Steel offers plenty of others with a similar price point. The steel is some plain jane 1055 carbon, which takes and holds a respectable edge IMHO.

Not a cutlass, but the kershaw 18 inch camp knife is pretty impressive. Have those drink straw weeds you described and knocked em out. Took down multiple weed trees with like 3 inch diameters without any problem. Thick spine, edge lasts, hard to damage, but easy to touch up. Another world of quality to the gerbers I have used.

Here's a nice one with a long handle. I've made single cuts through bamboo with this. Long gunstock handle
