The strengths are there. The knife has impeccable F&F and it suits my frequent rocking cuts well, though many true gyuto rock acceptably. The steel is underwhelming. I have to sharpen it more often than others and the edge is never quite as fantastic. But I will say it takes a hone wonderfully.

The deep end version has to be the Kikuichi TKC. It's a little harder, a much better steel, and has that great F&F. It's the knife I would trade my Mac plus the minor surplus in cost for today. Neither has the glitz and glamor of similarly priced knives and are really intended to perform. The artistry is in the utility.
