Degrade those nice looking handles with those phucking plastic ferrules!

JEFFB <> Low price point value product has to compromise somewhere.

I understand, but put a decent ferrule on the knife and raise the price a little and you have a better, still low price point, knife. Yet more appealing.

Yeah, Shun & Miyabi F&F it ain't, but the steel sure is nice :-).

Actually, I've been using more video knives lately with this style handle and the step between the wood and the plastic ferrule bugs me more than the plastic ferrule itself. The handle does feel pretty solid during use - the wood is nicer than the super cheap "Ho" wood on the Tojiro ITK line, for example.

Yeah the plastic ferrule is a put off. I'd rather they have an all wood handle with no ferrule which should be quite inexpensive yet look decent than use a plastic ferrule that cheapens the look of the knife.

This way you can accomplish a couple of things:

1. No plastic ferrule

2. the raised step between handle and plastic ferrule.

I'm pretty interested in seeing some videos of this knife. Even with adding a handle upgrade the price shouldn't be out of control.
But I can see your point in say default getting a octagonal lacquered wood handle like the Murata Buho Knives and having a price of like 150-160 default.
