Thanks for putting a stone up on the forum special Mark. I have 1K 2K and 8K Shapton Pro's already and I really like them. For half price I could not resist, if for no other reason it will reduce wear on either the 1K or the 2K.
I also bought a saya for my Konosuke HD Petty and got FREE shipping. Of course I bought that Konosuke from you as well... ;)
That is how my brain works, I would rather spend another $30 then spend $10 just on shipping.

Nice offer! Again.

Is this a true splash and go stone?

Yes.

Does it make sense to get this if I already have the 2K green brick? There does not seem to be much difference between the 1500 and the green brick.

Hi Mark (or anyone else!),

I'm planning on buying the special. I'm wondering about a complement stone. Any thoughts on the S. Pro 5k versus the Rika 5k? Or, if I go with a lower-grit, the N. Bamboo 800 versus the S. Pro 320?

I am a home cook and probably won't have to reset bevels too often, and I'm wondering if it is necessary to have something as coarse as the 320, or if the 800 will do the job with just a bit more effort for most of my applications (I've already fixed a tip with my flattening 120 grit and a 1k combination).

On the other hand, I already have a very cheap 5k, which I use for trailing strokes mostly. I could keep using this stone, or replace it with something better, which would be used mostly for trailing strokes, but occasionally for a leading-edge, high-polish finishes, especially on large bevels. I'm wondering if the Shapton Pro might be better for future use, even if the Rika might be better for my current practices.

Any thoughts are appreciated!

Keep using your 5K. I'm sure it's fine.

Also I recommend the Imanishi 400. It's good and I would love more people to try it. Same maker as the Latte which we've been out of forever and won't be back in stock anytime soon: http://www.chefknivestogo.com/ri400grwast.html

There is no utility in doing this. If you only have the green brick and you want to get a second stone to compliment it I would suggest trying something in the 400-600 range.

One more question, Mark: Is the Imanishi a long soaker, short soaker, or splash and go? This was the only thing holding me back from putting it on the the list after your previous mentions of it—I want a splash and go or short soaker (otherwise the Bester would be on the list, too!).
