I don't have an idahone, nor a MAC ceramic rod. However I have used both, one thing that wouldn't sway me on the MAC but is a definite plus is the rubber tip. You can plant the tip onto your cutting board and it's solid.

These hones work surprisingly well, you won't be disappointed. I usually hone on a stone but this is far and away better than using a rolled edge all day.
