From what I understand now, my best bets for my price range are:

Nubatama Bamboo 1000 Gold
Shapton Pro 1000
Shapton Glass 1000 or 1500

What do you all think?
Keep in mind I am kind of new at this. I have a DMT 220grit, Besten 500, The Naniwa Green Brick of Joy 2k and the Kitayana 8k. I am looking to lessen the jump from the 500 to the 2k. Plus, it's time for a new stone.
Thanks peeps.

The nubatamas are great stones , I am sure you will be happy with the gold 1k.

I also like the shaptons , I use the pro series.

The Shapton pro 1k and the green brick go well together and it's a good 1k.

The bamboo gold 1k is pretty good but the Ume speckled is better, and looks better.

I didn't find the bamboo gold to be impressive at all. I have a Shapton Pro 1k and really like it. I use it before my Green Brick.

Thanks guys. I dig the advice. I am definitely leaning toward the Shapton Pro.

Wait...
What about the:
Imanishi 1k or
Arashiyama 1k
How about these? I heard a few things from Mark and Jason here and there.

Mikey - this thread has some good summaries and opinions of 1K stones: want-to-explore-1k-alternatives-t5708.html

What didn't you like about the 1k gold? For me it holds water too much, doesn't really load up but needs constant water to keep the mud going. It does cut pretty fast. So fast I goofed up my knife...but now I've learned better.

The 1k gold is not bad but it's not great. It does cut fast on carbon steels and softer stainless but starts to choke on more wear resistant steels. It feels hard but wears quickly and has a problem with releasing large abrasive particles which cause streaking scratches on larger bevels. It has a great feel and is priced well but is not a stone I would buy again.
