This is the board I have and I love it. It is way too heavy (3.5" thick) so it stays out on the counter, but they have other sizes too (i just saw a 15x15x2 also). It is by Michigan Maple and I have had it for three and 1/2 years. Still looks great and like I said, it stays on the counter at all times.

Beautiful video. looks nothing like the process Ivan uses, because he does everything by hand. No router and he doesn't have this fancy equipment. I bet he really envies you :D

Looks like Mark is interested in partnering up with Lone Star Artisans so your wish may come true sooner than you think.

I do agree though, from all that I have read it seems as though bamboo is not the best on the knives, especially because of all the glue that is needed. Some end grain boards on the site would be a good addition.

BTW, I ended up going with this one - http://www.totallyfurniture.com/catskill-1814.html - I wanted one a bit larger but the 19" x 14.5" did not come with feet, and with my wife leaving the counter wet all the time, I needed the feet on the board. Couldn't quite bring myself to shell out the $200 for a board smith or lone star, in the size I wanted, that is what they would have cost. Maybe in the future.

That's a great price for an end-grain cutting board. A custom hard maple board from LoneStar Artisans, 18 X 14 X 1.5" from with rubber feet, would run $110. A juice groove tacks on $15. So the Catskill board is half the price.

Is your Catskill board birch, maple, or some combination of the two? That part in their description was confusing to me. Hard Maple is THE traditional wood for end-grain cutting boards. Birch... not so much.

I wish I could sell my boards that affordably. When it's one guy making each board by hand, it just takes a lot longer.

As far as I can tell, by looking closely at the picture of the board, it is maple, the wood just doesn't look like birch to me. I guess I was willing to take the risk. Hopefully it is a board that can get me by for a while and become a backup once I can take the plunge into a more expensive board.

Believe me, I wish you could sell your boards at the same price, I would obviously choose your hand crafted beauties over the catskill any day. But at $60 shipped, the price was too good at the moment. Hoping I don't regret my purchase.

I look forward to the opportunity of owning one of your boards one day, thanks as well for your insight on the topic!

Most birch is too soft imo. Only exception is slow grown birch I tested.
