Yup, I snagged one of the no handle ones a few weeks ago. The blade is ground much thinner than the Sekiso series overall. The Damascus is a deep etch and you can feel the layers. It adds a hair more friction in the cut, but not much. Cutting through stacked up bacon strips, the blade went thru nicely and the bacon stayed on the board when I was done cutting; it didn't stick and drag onto the blade. Onions, peppers, etc were no match. The R2 sharpens up fairly easily and takes a wicked edge and edge retention is excellent; I made a huge pot of chili and used it for all of the prep (bacon, peppers, onions, parsley, etc) and the edge still felt like I had just taken it off of the stones.

Taz really nailed the handle job on that Tanaka.
Looks like it cuts as good as it looks.
This is a real pro's blade for sure.

I really love that handle job. I have the same "wow" reaction to that koa each time I see those pics posted in different places. Love it.
