This style gets my vote. I like the slightly dished center to keep your steak juices with your steak versus the wood steak plates with a drip ring along the edge.

I got 4 of these recently and loving them, despite the added maintenance/cleaning. Knew it was a must-have after picking up some decent steak knives (saw a great price for a set of four 'Grand Prix 2').

I find it's the other way around, before I used to have to mop up the plate (and that's a big plate, with a lot of surface to soak up that juice), but now I just run a piece of steak along the drip ring. Also less juice is inadvertently soaked up by the side-dishes on the same plate.

I'm intrigued by this idea--I think steak plates would be really cool. I'm torn between a smaller board for just the steak, vs. a larger one that has a section with a juice groove. It would be a fun way to serve, and then you could give guests really sharp steak knives.

I can't see end-grain being cost-effective, and I have a feeling those boards would end up being pretty thick and heavy.

If you could come up with something that is nicer, but somewhat competitive in price, I'm interested.

i might know a guy that could make the squareish plates and might even be able keep them at a good price point
