Per Taz:
Resin has come a long way, but it is still very sensitive to heat.
Hey Taz, have you ever tried Acetone to shrink the ferrules?
Should work good to polish them too, but if you really soak a cloth in acetone, it should soften the ferrule just a little.

Used to do this to loosen up golf club ferrules. Works well, but they could deform if you weren't too careful (i.e. let them soak too long). Not sure if it translates or not to knife ferrules...

I have not tried acetone to shrink the ferrules. I use denatured alcohol to cleanup excess epoxy with no problems though. I made a few test handles out of the synthetics and have washed them under hot water, no issues yet!
